"Instead of spending thousands of pesos for a Christmas tree that gets junked after the Filipino Christmas season, the LGU opted to make its Christmas public presents more visual and interactive."

[VIGAN, ILOCOS SUR, PHILIPPINES] ► No giant Christmas tree this year. For the past years, a giant Christmas tree has always been lighted to welcome the Christmas season here in Vigan. This year, Vigan was brave enough to break the traditional. It offered something new.

No Giant Christmas Tree

THE BRAINS BEHIND VIGAN'S CONCEPT FOR 2016 public Christmas displays and decorations ditched the traditional Christmas tree. Bigueรฑos were waiting for the pasabog Christmas tree (as it has been a tradition the past years to unveil a Christmas tree) but nothing stood up. There was even a grand program to unveil the ▼ GIANT CHRISTMAS TREE LAST YEAR (2015)

with the presence of popular Filipino celebrities so many were expecting something sensational this 2016.

Vigan City Hall Goes Digital and Interactive This 2016

THE CITY, I THINK, ADAPTED THE state-of-the-art digitally mastered audio-visual show during its declaration as a New7Wonder city wherein the faรงade of the Vigan Cathedral served as a giant screen. This time, the city hall's faรงade took the job.

Every night, Christmas-themed shows are played on the giant screen which is more interactive and entertaining compared to the traditional giant Christmas tree that's good for only one season.

To my Ilocano and Bigueรฑo readers, what do you think of this trend initiated by the Vigan LGU? Would you still prefer the traditional Christmas tree? Or it's time to break the norm and offer something new yet meaningful? Let me hear your thoughts! | end |
