[VIGAN, ILOCOS SUR, PHILIPPINES] ► Costume designers from Africa, Japan, Indonesia and the United States (and some more parts in the world) had their designs featured and highlighted for the World Costume Festival 2016 that was held in Vigan on 22 October 2016.

WORLD COSTUME FESTIVAL 2016 - VIGAN

[VIGAN] ► HELLO! WELCOME TO VIGAN!

Beautiful costumes designed by passionate minds from different parts of the world, inspired by their culture, were showcased in Calle Crisologo.

2016 Set-up

The last time I featured the World Costume Festival on this blog was in 2013. ▼ THE EVENT IN 2013

[VIGAN] ► World Costume Festival: Vigan Conquers the World

TEASER ▬ The heart and soul were poured to those costumes. Passion was indeed evident.

was bigger compared this year. This year was simple. However, it's the costume that matters here.

The fashion show was held on a stage put up at the intersection of Calle Crisologo and General Luna Street. The runway started from the intersection of Calle Crisologo and Salcedo Street until the models reached the stage.

The judges rode in a calesa until they reached the stage while the host was presenting them to the audience. Most (if not all) of the models were locals unlike in 2013 wherein participants from the other countries traveled to Vigan for them to wear their costumes.

Anyway, below are some of the photos I took.

Insights
  • The crowd wasn't big for this event so it was well-organized. The event was opened by some artists/talents of GMA Network to promote their show which wasn't related to the festival at all. However, the network was the official media partner for this event so those GMA artists appearing to promote their show was expected.
  • As usual, Indonesia's costumes were impressive. Indonesia was the recipient of the best costume award in 2013. This year, Indonesian designers never fail to stun the arts and costume-loving audience.
  • One of the entries for the competition was a beautiful costume inspired by Vigan's Longganisa Festival. I swear it was so classy.
